Investment Process - Exits, Dividends & Write-off

Your guide to processing your exits, dividends and writte-off

Processing Exit

When the time has come to process an exit, this can be achieved directly from within the company card in Portfolio Management. We have made the process as simple as possible, and I will give you an overview of how it works.

To get started, navigate to Portfolio Management and open the company card for the company you wish to record an exit for.

Once you are on the company page, you will find the Record an update button in the top-right corner of the screen. Clicking on this button will reveal a dropdown menu with several options. From here, simply select Record an exit to proceed with the exit process.

Selecting an Exit

Once you have selected 'Record an exit', a pop-up window will appear prompting you to select an investment to exit. You will be presented with all the current investments recorded for that company, grouped by instrument type. For equity, investments are grouped, while other instruments are listed separately.

Each card shows the corresponding round, associated share classes and other information. Click on the investment you wish to exit to proceed to the next step.

Upon selecting an instrument to exit, choose “Repayment or sale”, enter the date and select the status, then click Continue to Shares.

Upon this selection, additional input fields will appear, letting you insert the relevant information to process the exit and for your portfolio to be updated. Depending on the instrument, the input boxes will vary to fit each instrument.

Write-off

Recording a full or partial write-off of an investment is now more straightforward. You can mark an investment as written off, specify the write-off date, and have valuations update accordingly.

Why it matters: Write-offs have a direct impact on portfolio valuation. Cleaner write-off handling means the operations in Portfolio are correctly labeled, and your performance metrics stay accurate without manual adjustments.

You can record a write-off from any company profile by clicking the Record update button at the top right, selecting Record Exit, then choosing the Write-off option and filling in the date and status fields.

Dividends

You can process Dividends through any company profile by clicking the Record update button at the top right, selecting Record Dividends. Your portfolio will then be updated to reflect this income.

Companies page

Once you have processed an exit, if for whatever reason you need to update the information, this can be achieved from within the Companies page tab within Edda. The Companies page holds all the information regarding each investment and exit from within each company in your portfolio. More on the Companies page can be found here.
